In this article we will take an in-depth look at the different steps in the production of a special tool, from design to manufacture. We are not talking about a standard procedure, but rather about the different steps of Eurostamp's modus operandi, which ensure that the tools produced are always of the highest quality and meet customer requirements.

Special tools by Eurostamp Tooling.

Special tools are created precisely for a specific working requirement, so the design and creation stages must be meticulous down to the last detail.

Sheet metal bending is a very delicate type of processing, which must take into account a large number of parameters in order to produce parts without superficial and structural flaws.

In this article we considered 3 examples of special tools by Eurostamp Tooling:

Let us now take a look at the 5 production steps of a special tool by Eurostamp Tooling.

Special tool in 5 steps.

The design steps for a special tool are:

  1. Preliminary analysis.
  2. Feasibility check.
  3. Test on pre-series sample tool*.
  4. Final check.
  5. Production and support.

*(on demand)

Let us look at them below.

1. Preliminary analysis.

For the design and manufacture of this type of tool, upstream thinking is required, which is based on listening to the customer's request and gathering the relevant information.

For example, the part to be produced is analyzed: measurements, parameters and characteristics. But also very precise information is required about the press brake that the customer uses, such as the model, clamping, length and nominal force.

Only after this first step, we begin to calculate what type of tooling is required for the workpiece to fulfill the task.

2. Feasibility check.

After gathering all the necessary information, the request is entrusted to the Technical Department.

The department performs a feasibility check to ensure that the tool can be manufactured with the features and functions required by the customer.

Once this check has been carried out, a three-dimensional drawing of the press brake tool, which will be used to process the parts, is prepared.

3. Pre-series sample tool testing.

The proposal is handed over to the customer, who, if he accepts the design and cost of the pre-series test, provides material samples for testing on a sample of the special tool.

This step, in theory, is not necessary, but it is what makes the difference between good and excellent machining. Making a pre-series sample of the press brake tool that is to be produced is in fact a further step to ensure that the part matches the request.

Having a test sample allows, in fact, to conduct a whole series of tests and checks on tonnages and strengths, before starting the actual production. It is therefore a required step if you want to have a press brake tool that works without errors in the bending operation and without wasting time and money.

Relying solely on theoretical calculations can in fact be simplistic and misleading, as very often the machining operations (think of rib forming, for example) are very complex. Every good bender knows that accuracy and full compliance can only be achieved by subjecting the tool to rigorous technical tests.

To obtain correct dimensions, at Eurostamp we have a test room where specific tests are carried out and the best sheet metal bending solutions are studied.

4. Final inspection.

The special tool is measured with an extremely precise millesimal mechanical profile detector to check dimensional tolerances.

The manufactured part is also checked to ensure that the contour corresponds to the initial drawing provided by the customer.

5. Production and Support.

If the tool passes the tests and machining requirements, then production is completed and the tool is shipped to the customer.

At Eurostamp, however, the work does not end there.

Our highly trained specialists who monitor each production step remain available to help the customer in the use of the tool, where necessary.

Our sales and technical staff are thus able to fulfill every request promptly and provide training support for the bending process.
